Seema Ahuja has retired from Biocon after a 14-year stint, concluding a long innings in which she helped shape the communications and corporate brand narrative of Biocon Group and Biocon Biologics.

Ahuja, who served as Global Head of Communications & Corporate Brand, joined the company in 2011 at a time when Biocon was already establishing itself as a science-led enterprise with global ambitions. Over the years, she played a key role in articulating the company’s transformation into a global biopharmaceutical player, as it expanded across regulated markets such as the US and Europe and strengthened its biosimilars business through Biocon Biologics.

During her tenure, she was closely associated with building and maintaining Biocon’s corporate voice across a wide range of milestones, including leadership communication, annual reports, crisis management, and major business announcements. Her role became particularly significant as the company engaged with global regulators, partners and investors, requiring communication that was consistent, credible and aligned with its international ambitions.

Her journey at Biocon also coincided with periods of rapid business expansion, global partnerships and unprecedented challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Over time, her mandate evolved from managing communication to helping anchor the company’s reputation across markets and geographies.

Internally, Ahuja was known for aligning teams across cultures and functions, while externally she contributed to building a narrative that positioned Biocon as not just an Indian enterprise, but a global biopharmaceutical company. Her work over the years earned more than 50 awards and recognitions.

Beyond the accolades, Ahuja’s contribution is seen in the communication function she helped build, the trust she fostered with leadership, and the teams and young professionals she mentored along the way.

In her farewell note on retirement, Ahuja reflected on the value of the people behind the journey, underscoring that while what one builds matters, who one builds it with matters even more.

As she moves into her next chapter, Ahuja leaves behind a communications legacy that has become closely intertwined with Biocon’s own growth story over the past decade and a half.
