Umang Vohra steps down as Cipla MD & Global CEO

Umang Vohra has stepped down as Managing Director (MD) and Global Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Cipla, concluding a decade-long leadership journey at the pharmaceutical major. Achin Gupta has taken over as MD and GCEO with effect from 1 April 2026 for a five-year term.
Gupta had been serving as Global Chief Operating Officer and was earlier appointed MD & GCEO Designate from 1 January 2026. Gupta succeeds Vohra, who had held the top role since 2016.
In a LinkedIn post, Vohra expressed gratitude for his time at the company, highlighting the people, purpose and experiences that shaped his leadership.
Vohra joined Cipla in 2015 as Global Chief Financial and Strategy Officer before being elevated to MD and GCEO the following year. During his tenure, he oversaw the company’s strategic transformation and growth.
Prior to joining Cipla, Vohra spent nearly 14 years at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, and earlier held roles at Eicher Motors and PepsiCo.
