Prashanth Menon, Tesla’s India country head, has stepped down from his role just as the U.S.-based electric vehicle giant prepares to enter the Indian market, according to media reports.
Menon, who has been with Tesla for nine years, is also resigning as chairman of the board for Tesla India. His departure comes at a pivotal moment, as the Elon Musk-led company gears up to launch its cars in the world’s third-largest automobile market.
According to reports, Tesla’s China team will now oversee the company’s operations in India, with no immediate replacement named for Menon’s position.
Separately, a Reuters report noted that Tesla signed a lease in March this year for its first showroom in Mumbai, signaling renewed efforts toward its long-anticipated India entry.
