Shailesh Chandra Takes Over as MD & CEO of Tata Motors

  • Tata Motors has appointed Shailesh Chandra as the new Managing Director and CEO, effective October 1, 2025, pending shareholder approval, while he continues to lead Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
  • P B Balaji, the current Group CFO, will resign on November 17, 2025, to become CEO of Jaguar Land Rover in the UK; Dhiman Gupta will succeed him as CFO of Tata Motors.
  • Girish Wagh has resigned as Executive Director of Tata Motors, effective October 1, to take on the role of Managing Director and CEO at TML Commercial Vehicles.
  • Three Independent Directors—Hanne Sorensen, Kosaraju Veerayya Chowdary, and Guenter Karl Butschek—will leave the board, with Sorensen remaining at Jaguar Land Rover and Chowdary and Butschek joining the TML Commercial Vehicles board amid a planned demerger.

Tata Motors has announced several key leadership changes. Shailesh Chandra, who currently leads Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, has been appointed as the new Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors. His three-year term will begin on October 1, 2025, subject to shareholder approval. He will continue to head Tata Passenger Electric Mobility alongside his new role.

The company also shared that P B Balaji, Group CFO, will step down from his position on November 17, 2025. He will take over as CEO of Jaguar Land Rover in the UK. Following his exit, Dhiman Gupta, who is currently CFO at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, will become the new CFO and Key Managerial Personnel of Tata Motors.

Meanwhile, Girish Wagh has resigned as Executive Director of Tata Motors, effective October 1. He will move to TML Commercial Vehicles (TMLCV) as Managing Director and CEO.

In addition, three Independent Directors — Hanne Sorensen, Kosaraju Veerayya Chowdary, and Guenter Karl Butschek — will step down from the company’s board. Hanne Sorensen will continue as a board member at Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc, while Chowdary and Butschek will join the board of TML Commercial Vehicles, which is expected to be separated as part of the company’s demerger plan.
