Puneet Gupt named Chairperson of DNPA

Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) has appointed Puneet Gupt, Chief Operating Officer of Times Internet, as its new Chairperson. He takes over from Mariam Mammen Mathew, CEO of Manorama Online, who has completed her two-year term.
Puneet Gupt was earlier serving as Vice Chairperson of DNPA and has been actively involved in the association’s major initiatives and industry discussions, ensuring a smooth transition into his new role.
Sharing his views, Gupt said the digital news industry is going through a major shift, especially with the rise of AI changing how content is discovered and valued. He added that DNPA’s role as a collective voice for publishers is now more important than ever, and his focus will be on helping members actively shape policies and industry standards rather than just adapting to changes.
Meanwhile, Anant Goenka, Executive Director of The Indian Express Group, has been named Vice Chairperson, while Dhruba Mukherjee continues as Treasurer. Goenka said this is a crucial time for both DNPA and the digital publishing industry, and highlighted the importance of collaboration among publishers to better understand opportunities and challenges ahead.
Looking back at her tenure, Mariam Mammen Mathew said it was an honour to lead DNPA during a transformative period. She expressed confidence that the organisation will continue to grow under Gupt’s leadership and wished the new team success.
Sujata Gupta, Secretary General and CEO of DNPA, said the leadership change marks a new phase for the organisation. She noted that DNPA has built strong credibility and relationships in recent years, and with the new leadership, it aims to turn that foundation into meaningful outcomes in areas like policy, fair business practices, and the long-term sustainability of digital news publishing in India.
