Flipkart's outgoing Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO), Jeyandran Venugopal, is expected to join Reliance Retail Ventures as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Venugopal, who resigned from Flipkart in February citing personal reasons, is likely to lead the consumer-facing division of Reliance Industries (RIL), according to media reports.
Venugopal worked at Flipkart for nearly six years, initially joining as Senior Vice President of Product and Engineering. During his tenure, he oversaw various critical areas, including consumer shopping experience, design and user research, IT, security and data science. He has also been the chairperson of the Nasscom Deeptech Council since January 2024. Before his time at Flipkart, Venugopal held senior roles at Myntra for nearly two years.
Venugopal is expected to complete his exit from Flipkart by May, as per the reports.
The development coincides with Reliance Retail's recent partnership with the Shein, announced in February. The collaboration will see Shein’s operations entirely managed by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Retail, with all data and the app being hosted within India.
On the financial front, Reliance Retail reported a 7 per cent increase in its operating revenue to Rs 79,595 crore in the third quarter (Q3) of FY25, compared to Rs 74,373 crore in Q3 FY24. Its net profit also saw a 10 per cent rise, reaching Rs 3,458 crore in Q3 FY25, up from Rs 3,145 crore in the same period last year.
