Third edition of POP Asia to be held in February 2007; Retail Design Awards introduced

‘Point-of-Purchase’, a leading marketing and retail magazine, will be holding the third edition of POP Asia from February 1-3, 2007 in the Capital. The third edition of this annual expo and convention forum for the marketing-at-retail industry would have a new module – the VMRD Retail Design Awards. The Awards would will felicitate design firms and retail brands in India that successfully use design to create aesthetic and effective retail spaces.

The Awards have been divided into various categories such as product/service, retail formats and size of the stores. Apart from the primary classification, entries will also compete in other design practice-related sections like store planning, fixturing, lighting, visual merchandising, etc.

The entries would be judged by a panel comprising Indian and international professionals from the design, retail and brand marketing industry, such as Martin Pegler, a visual merchandising guru from the US; Joseph Weisher, Founder, New Vision Studio, USA; Linda Cahan of Cahan & Company, USA; and Carol Bagaric, Visual Merchandising Consultant, Australia; and Idiom’s Jacob Mathew, among others.

Vasant Jante, Project Head of POP Asia, said, “Retail design is a vital contributor to the success of retail and it certainly deserves a forum where the best practitioners can be recognised and honoured. Retail design, which encompasses tactical, aesthetic and material participation, will be one of the key differentiators of retail excellence. With the addition of the Retail Design Awards, POP Asia becomes an all-inclusive forum for issue related to successful retail in the country.”

POP Asia is the platform for Indian retail solution providers to showcase their innovative and international ideas to the modern day retailers. The convention will bring together national and international perspectives on all aspects of marketing-at-retail, including point-of-purchase advertising, in-store marketing, POP and store design, store planning, research and technology.

POP Asia is organised by Thoughtshows and Events, the on-the-ground events division of VJ Media Works, which also organises the annual Outdoor Advertising Convention (OAC). VJ Media Works is a media company with interests in publishing and industry events. The company owns three publishing brands – ‘Point-of-Purchase’, ‘Outdoor Advertising’ and ‘VM&RD’ (Visual Merchandising & Retail Design).
