Sports journalist Digvijay Singh Deo moves on from CNN-News 18

Digvijay Singh Deo’s over a decade-long journey at CNN-News 18 concluded on November 11. Sources close to the development confirmed the news to exchange4media. It is learnt that Deo, who served as the Sports Editor of the channel, had wanted to leave the organisation about 5-6 months back but his departure was postponed until the end of Rio Olympics in August.

The sports journalist was associated with CNN-News 18 since its launch in 2005. At that time, the English-language news channel was known as CNN-IBN. Unlike other sports reporters, Deo made a career out of covering athletics. He chose to concentrate more on Olympics instead of cricket.

He reported for CNN-News 18 during several sporting events including the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2006 Doha Asian Games and 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. As a journalist, he had the rare honour of being a torchbearer at the Delhi leg of the Beijing Olympics torch relay.

In 2016, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication alumnus also published a book alongside Amit Bose titled, My Olympic Journey. This book chronicles the struggle of several Indian sportspersons including Abhinav Bindra, Leander Paes and Sushil Kumar. Besides interviewing the likes of Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer, Deo was also named on the panel to decide the recipients of Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards.
