Prasar Bharati shortlists Kajol as a proposed Board member
MIB has sent a list of seven names to the Home Ministry for approval of part-time board members for the public broadcaster. Other proposed names are said to include singer Anup Jalota, Ashok Tandon, who was former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's media advisor and senior journalist Minhaz Merchant
Prasar Bharti has included Bollywood actress Kajol in the list of names proposed to be on its board. According media reports, the Ministry of Information & Broadcast (MIB) had sent a list of seven names to the Home Ministry for approval for part-time board members for the public broadcaster and received the approval yesterday.
The other names are said to include singer Anup Jalota, Ashok Tandon who was former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s media advisor and senior journalist Minhaz Merchant. The seven names have been shortlisted to fill up four vacancies for the part time members of the Prasar Bharati board. The final names are expected to be announced after a meeting which is to be convened between Vice President, MIB Secretary and Chairman of Press Council.
The reason said for the inclusion of Kajol is as the government’s efforts for the remodelling of Doordarshan and making it into a commercially viable entity. The government is looking to include a large involvement of people from the mainstream entertainment industry to revamp the content.
