Pradhanmantri season II

ABP News announced season 2 of their flagship show Pradhanmantri on January 17, 2020, at a press meet at Oberoi, Delhi. The show will make a comeback after its successful 2013-14 run on January 25, 2020. ABP has also brought back Oscar-winning director Shekhar Kapur as the host of the show. At the event, ABP CEO Avinash Pandey delivered a speech, recounting the journey of the hit TV show.

He began by expressing his appreciation for the Indian constitution and freedom of speech, despite the many differences in the country.

“As individuals and as a company, we are proud of our constitution, because it has allowed us to approach all issues with an open mind. We are here to celebrate that openness of expression. We are curious to see how events and people shaped our country,” he began.

It was this curiosity, he explained, that led to Pradhanmantri series one. “Six years back, we had no idea how it would be looked at from the audience,” he said.

Pandey revealed that ABP’s risk paid off when it emerged as a top-rated show in terms of share of eyeballs but also in educating the youth. “I am not sure if you are aware, but Pradhanmantri 1 is a part of IAS preparation courses in most training institutes,” he pointed out.

Pandey observed that a show like Pradhanmantri stands out in a world where channels are scrambling to top the rating charts by shouting and overdoing India-Pakistan debates. “It requires courage to produce a show like Pradhanmantri,” he asserted.

He also revealed that the shows Hamara Samvidhan and Parivarthan were born out of this journalistic responsibility.

Pandey also expressed his pleasure to have Shekhar Kapur on board again. He implied that Kapur’s willingness to work on Pradhanmantri is a testimony to the show’s greatness. “As you know, he doesn’t work on something unless he is convinced it’s different and remarkable. It’s not easy to get an Oscar nomination and win the Golden Globe.”

In his speech, he also acknowledged the crew who made the show such a success -- producer and VP of special content Anju Juneja, directors Sanjay Nandan and Puneet Sharma, and their team members Ruchi Singh and Abhinav Goel.

“I believe to do remarkable things in life one need to have two qualities, you have to be interesting and you have to be interested. PM 2 is indeed interesting for interested and evolved audience of today like you,” he concluded.
