Indian TV Fest would celebrate television’s achievements: Monica Tata

The IBF (Indian Broadcasting Foundation) is all set to give the Indian television industry the biggest platform dedicated to broadcasters in India in the form of Indian TV Fest, also called the ITF. The event is scheduled to be held at the Baga Grounds, Goa on November 2 and 3. exchange4media is the exclusive industry partner for ITF 2012.

Monica Tata, General Manager, Entertainment Networks, South Asia, Turner International India, who is a member of the ITF Organising Committee, explained why the time was right for an initiative like ITF to come in play for the broadcast fraternity.

Giving a quick overview of the achievements concerning India being the third largest market with more than 600 channels today, Tata stated, “As an industry, we have been able to achieve a lot in a short time. We had a fantastic growth in the last five years. We have reached more than 500 million people across the country. Right now, we are over Rs 33,000 crore industry and the intention is to make this a Rs 1,00,000 crore industry. And when you achieve so much in a short span of time, it calls for a celebration.”

According to Tata, television provides significant opportunities. The television industry has been instrumental in bringing social change, education, development, interaction and awakening. There is a great opportunity for growth as well. At present, TV has 60 percent market penetration with cable and satellite. TV reach is expected to grow at a rate of 288 percent by 2016. Also the time spent on television in the country is less compared to markets such as the US, where it is 270 minutes and UK where it is 240 minutes. Even Indonesia has a higher time spent that India which is 174 minutes. These statistics indicate growth opportunities for television to progress into a Rs 100,000 crore industry.

Elaborating further on ITF, Tata said, “We think it is time to get together and celebrate our success. The key differentiator in this event is that it is completely an industry event, which is of the industry, for the industry and by the industry. It is an exciting platform where we expect to have significant interaction and exchange of ideas providing opportunities for the growth.”

The event would also provide an opportunity to meet established players of the industry and study success stories in India and internationally.

“We are excited about bringing an unprecedented experience under one roof, from an India as well as an international standpoint. It is not something that comes easy but that is what the ITF looks to achieve. The event would provide us with an opportunity to collaborate. We have cutthroat competition in the industry today but it is about time we got together and celebrated what we can achieve together,” added Tata.

Tata concluded by saying that the Indian TV Fest 2012 would be a collaboration of the young talent in the industry and the veterans, in the process creating an opportunity that matches events of global scale.
