CCI approved 7 M&A deals in media and entertainment in last 5 yrs: MIB

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) reportedly said that it has approved seven Mergers and Acquisition (M&A) deals in media and entertainment in the last five years, in keeping with the competition guidelines, said L Murugan, Minister of State for I&B, at the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
These include the $8.5 billion Disney-Reliance merger, the Comcast Corporation's investment in Bodhi Tree Systems, Tata Sons’ stake in Tata Play and Bharti Airtel’s buyback of 20% in Bharti Telemedia from Warburg Pincus.
Murugan reportedly told the Lok Sabha that the M&A deals were approved on a case-to-case basis to promote and sustain competition in the markets.
He also said that the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of Television Channels, 2022; 109 private satellite TV channels have been transferred in the last five years.
