Carried Yesterday: Vijay Subramaniam exits Disney; Abhishek Maheshwari takes charge of Disney Media Networks

Vijay Subramaniam will be exiting his role at Disney India as Vice President for Media Networks. Abhishek Maheshwari, who currently served as Vice President & Head of Consumer Products, Interactive & Corporate Strategy for Disney India, will now take charge of Disney Media Networks. He will lead the new strategic initiatives to transform the Media Networks business into the digital space.
While Maheshwari’s role is taken up by Sanjeet Mehta who has been promoted as Head of Disney Consumer Products (DCP) and will be responsible for the licensing and retail businesses, Maheshwari will continue to lead the Interactive business. The news of the change in leadership roles, and Subramaniam’s exit was confirmed to exchange4media by Disney India.
In his role as Vice President for Media Networks, Subramaniam was overseeing the bouquet of eight channels across three segments, which are Youth – bindass and bindass PLAY, Movies - UTV Movies and UTV Action and Kids - Disney Channel India, Disney XD India, Disney Junior India and Hungama TV.
He was also spearheading the content and revenue functions and was responsible for strengthening the business through each of the channels. As Vice President for Media Networks, he also led the unique media solutions division called the Disney Media Plus that offers commercial opportunities generated by the Disney universe in India in addition to creating specialized properties under the bindass brand.
Subramaniam has more than 20 years of experience in the field of sales in television, radio, and print media, having worked with media companies like Magna publishing, Turner, and STAR Entertainment Network India. In his last assignment before joining Disney, Subramaniam was with MTV India as Director, Advertising Sales, where he was responsible for leading the team and delivering revenue objectives for MTV.
