“Today is a little different; a little special, and just a little bit emotional to me. After 18 incredible years at India Today, this is my final broadcast here. I was 26 years old when I joined this amazing network and I am 44 today. It’s been an honour of a lifetime to bring you the news every day whether from a bustling newsroom, frontlines of a breaking story, battlefields around the world, or deep inside the corridors of power,” he said.
After thanking his colleagues, critics and viewers, Aroor announced that he “won’t be staying away from the action for long” and “will be back before you can say ‘Exclusive breaking news.’”
Aroor joining NDTV’s editorial leadership team will give it additional editorial heft and it would be interesting to see if this move results in adding and growing viewership and creating a buzz for the group’s flagship platform NDTV 24x7 .
Known for his sharp political and defense reporting, Aroor has been a key figure in India Today’s editorial coverage, bringing in-depth analysis and on-ground reporting to some of the most significant stories over the years. His journalistic excellence has earned him multiple accolades, including the 'Best Anchor - English' award at the enba 2023, reaffirming his influence in Indian television journalism.
Beyond television, Aroor has made a mark in military literature. He is the author of 'Operation Jinnah' (2017), a gripping military thriller, and co-author of the highly acclaimed 'India’s Most Fearless' series, which chronicles real-life stories of valor from the Indian Armed Forces. The third installment of the series, released in 2022, further cemented his reputation as one of the leading voices in the defense space.
Aroor’s journalism career began after completing a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, followed by a Master’s in International Journalism from Cardiff University, UK.
