With 46 million viewers, IPL 2016 inaugural ceremony a huge hit
According to the data collected by Zapr, the show reached out to 46 million viewers and the average time spent by a viewer was 11.9 minutes
Bengaluru based media-tech startup, Zapr tracked the excitement around the opening ceremony of the ninth season of Vivo IPL 2016 on April 9. The tournament will witness 60 matches being played from April 9 to May 29.
According to the data collected by Zapr, the show reached out to 46 million viewers and the average time spent by a viewer was 11.9 minutes.
The highlights of the opening ceremony included performances by popular rapper Honey Singh, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, international artists Major Lazor and DJ Bravo. Singh’s show garnered 20.8 million viewers while the actor (which saw him performing the Champion dance along with DJ Bravo and other performers) managed to get 20 million viewers.
On the geographical front, the event was most watched in Maharashtra as it held a share of 13.8% across all states, followed by Uttar Pradesh (10.3), Gujarat (10.3), West Bengal (6.4) and Tamil Nadu (6.2).
Interestingly, the highest average time was spent by viewers in Goa, which was 13.6 minutes.
