Ilaya Thalapthy Vijay turns 45: A look at his brand journey
From Coca-Cola and Sunfeast to Chennai Super Kings, the Tamil actor has been the face of several brands in his over two-and-a-half-decade-long career
The Ilaya Thalapathy (young commander) of Tamil cinema Vijay is turning 45 on June 22. Ahead of his birthday on Saturday, the title and first look of his upcoming movie Bigil was unveiled.
Vijay started his film career as a child actor in 1984 and went on to perform in multiple movies including one with Rajinikanth in 1985. His first film in a lead role Naalaiya Theerpu was released in 1992. Rasigan, which was released in 1994, is considered to be his first commercial success and this was the movie which credited him with the prefix Ilaya Thalapathy, an epithet by which he became popularly known among fans and the media for the rest of his career. Ever since he has become one of the most bankable actors in the Tamil film industry.

Vijay has been associated with several brands in his over two-and-a-half-decade-long career. He appeared in Coco-Cola advertisements in 2002 and 2009. He has appeared in a Sunfeast advertisement in 2005.Vijay was signed up as an ambassador for Chennai Super Kings in 2008. Vijay was signed in as the brand ambassador by Jos Alukkas in 2010. He has also appeared in a Tata Docomo advertisement.
Vijay has a huge fan base among the youth in Tamil Nadu and he is one among the Tamil actors who has a huge fan following in other South Indian states as well. However, of late, his movies are being criticized for the political content in it. His 2018 release Sarkar was involved in controversies post release with reference to Jayalalithaa in the film's audio track and other sequences from the film led to protests by members of the AIADMK.
