Channels join in the Women’s Day spirit

Keeping with its brand promise of ‘Asli Mazaa SAB ke Saath Aata Hai’, SAB TV, family comedy entertainment channel, celebrated the spirit of women on the occasion of International Women’s Day by taking the leading ladies from their popular shows out to shop and lunch at the Oberoi Mall at Goregoan last week.

The channel’s leading gang of ladies were from shows such as ‘FIR’, ‘Gili Gili Gappa’, ‘Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo’, ‘Lapataganj’ and ‘Gutur Gu’, who seen interacting with fans at the mall. SAB TV has organized a similar event on March 8 for its female actors to unwind and celebrate. In an official press note, Anooj Kapoor, Business Head and Executive Vice President, SAB TV said, “It is indeed a very special day for women all around the world and today we at SAB decided to make this day even more special and bring a smile on the faces of our leading ladies and their fans as they interacted with the general public today. SAB TV is known to engage viewers with complete fun-filled family entertainment and has strong female protagonists who have been bringing smiles to people’s homes every day. I take this opportunity to thank them all for being a part of the SAB family.”

On 8th March, a day celebrated across the world as International Women's Day, Hindi GEC Zee TV, announced the launch of 'Project Protsahan', a drive towards empowerment of women. In a press note, Akash Chawla, Marketing Head, Zee TV and Zee Cinema said, “Today on Women's Day, we would like to pledge our commitment towards the cause of empowering women through Project Protsahan. Under this project, we will identify issues affecting women and work in a focussed manner towards improving the economic and social potential of all Indian women. To begin with, we will be working closely with many children-based NGO’s as we launch our new show ‘Chhoti Si Zindagi’ and have many more plans in the year ahead that will make a difference.”

Marking the first initiative under “Project Protsahan”, Zee TV presented awards to four extremely deserving women for having made a noteworthy difference to society. The channel highlighted its strong female protagonists in the faces of Lakshmi in ‘Sanskaar Lakshmi’, Gauri in ‘Sanjog Se Bani Sangini’ and Rani Jhansi in the show, ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ who presented the honours. Shaheen Mistri, the founder of Akanksha Foundation and Teach for India was awarded for her contribution in the field of education. Yvonne D’souza of Crrystal Care Service, an organization that provides caretakers across all parts of Mumbai to nurse the old and sick at their homes and in hospitals was felicitated was ‘Significant Contribution to Society’. Sweta Mangal who founded the ‘Dial 1298 for ambulance’ project across Mumbai, Bihar, Kerala and Rajasthan received the ‘Honour for Social Entrepreneurship’ at the hands of Aruna Irani, the veteran actress who has been associated with Zee TV for years. ‘The Honour for Excellence in the field of Athletics’ was presented to Manjit, a spirited girl from Pandharpur who has made a distinct mark in the male-dominated world of boxing at a tender age of 19.
The channel showcased the promo, titled ‘Liberation’ of the war for Independence led by Jhansi Ki Rani.

English general entertainment channel, AXN joined in the celebrations by premiering ‘Top Chef’ Season 6 on March 8 in its Monday-Tuesday 10 pm slot.
