Harshik Suraiya, now famously known for the ‘Beauty Tips by Reshma’ campaign, has moved on from Ogilvy and Mather as Creative Director to start his own creative shop and production house. Suraiya along with Vinit Bhat, a photographer and Chintan Pandav, an editor and film producer, have kick-started their new venture that is yet to be named.

Talking about his venture, Suraiya said, “When I began my second stint at Ogilvy, I decided to give myself a year and I had told myself that if that one year does not go well, I will quit. Luckily, it went well for four years and is still going good. There was one thing that was still pinching me. I did not have the satisfaction of calling something my own. This is something I had dreamed of as a child, to start something of my own.” He said that once he felt ready and confident about his craft, he took the plunge.

Suraiya said that the Beauty Tips by Reshma campaign, that won numerous awards, has changed everything for him. “The campaign did not have a very high budget and my partner and I were doing everything on our own. Since we were doing things ourselves we realised the potential for doing things outside agencies too,” he said.

Suraiya clarified that his venture will not be a competition to a creative agency. “If we do get into working on a campaign, it will be on the lines of experiential design but that’s for later. For now, we really want to make films, including ad films and video content,” he said. Suraiya and his team has set the sky as the limit and will not allow anything to come in the way of making high-quality films. “We want to give films the grandeur they deserve. We don’t want to keep it small. So the idea or story will decide the budget for our work,” he said.

Given his past work for not-for-profit causes, Suraiya says that for-good work is one of his strengths. He added that, with time, he and his team will find other niche areas that they will develop. Right now, the team of co-founders is working on personal projects as well to create a niche for themselves and put out work in the market. He said that working on personal projects helps create interesting work and that people should carve out time to create personal projects to build their own skills and portfolio.
