Sun Direct has joined in the list of service providers that have rolled out specific package offers for the cricket season. The DTH player has introduced five offers. New subscribers can watch the ICC World Cup 2011 with an offer where a DTH plus a six-month Value Plus pack connection is priced at Rs 1,690. For users who wish to sign up for a longer service, all the way through the IPL, a DTH plus one-year Value Plus pack is priced at Rs 2,490.
Existing subscribers can renew the Value Plus pack for six months or renew the Value Plus pack for one year at Rs 1,740, which will cover both the World Cup and IPL seasons. Alternatively, customers can buy ESPN and Star Sports on an a la carte basis and view the World Cup at Rs 25 per month. This promotional offer is available till March 25, 2011.

Let’s not forget the kids
As per data from TAM Media Research, kids are the growing viewers during the cricketing season. Kids entertainment channel Disney XD, the multi-platform entertainment offering from the Disney network of television channels and ESPN, the official broadcaster for the World Cup, have come together to offer a VIP experience to three lucky kids and buddies at the ICC World Cup.
As is known, in April 2010, the Walt Disney Company India had signed a multi-year agreement with Sun Distribution Services, a division of Sun Network Group, for its channel distribution. The deal includes channels such as Disney Channel, Disney XD and Hungama TV across multiple platforms, including cable TV, direct-to-home (DTH) and IPTV. Earlier, these channels were part of Star Den’s distribution network. Sun Direct claims a current subscriber base of 6.4 million.
As part of the initiative, three winners will be granted an all-expense paid trip to witness select World Cup matches ‘Live’. They will watch the matches from VIP seats, receive goody bags full of exclusive Disney merchandise and also meet the commentary team live in action. Disney XD invites all its viewers to tune in and participate in this contest, where viewers can tune in to Disney XD, Disney Channel or Hungama TV and answer a simple question that will be aired starting this week to March 7, 2011.
