FM players in Kolkata are all set to celebrate Poila Baisakh, the Bengali New Year, with a slew of programmes on April 14.
Big FM embarked on an on-air bidding (from April 2 to April to 12) in a move to capture the ‘Caitra sale’ or year-end sale feel on air. Listeners were invited to bid via SMS. The bidding started from Re 1 and on offer were several white goods. The aim was to break the clutter and also provide entertainment at the same time.
In an effort to keep the spirit of ‘adda’ alive, Friends FM is airing a special programme ‘Selam Kolkata’, which features well-known names from the music and entertainment world sharing their New Year celebrations. There would also be discussions on the different types of food, attire and customs characteristic of this festival.
Fever FM is organising a special treat for 10 lucky couples, who were selected through an on-air contest ‘How true a Kolkatan are you?’ The winners would be escorted to a restaurant where a popular Bangla band would entertain them. Later, the winners would be treated to games and refreshments. A mega prize – an AC – would be given away along with other prizes.
Red FM is taking 100 lucky winners on a barge party along the river Ganga. The ride would include interactions with the station’s RJs, live performance by a Bangla band followed by dinner. The whole event would be aired live from the barge.
The stations have come together not only to entertain their listeners, but also keep the traditions of Poila Baisakh alive.
