Sunil Khanna adieus Zee, large screen professionals step in

Sunil Khanna has bid a fond farewell to Zee TV after a tenure spanning more than 10 years. After our exclusive reporting yesterday, Zee’s corporate communication cell has finally validated the facts and informed the media fraternity of the arrival of Sudhir Mishra and Viveck Vaswani – the duo, who would assist Zee TV on the creative sides of programming. An official communiqué from Zee Network reads, “Sunil Khanna has decided to move on to better prospects and the entire team of Zee Network wishes Sunil all the success in his future endeavors.”

Further more, it adds, “Zee TV has made arrangements with eminent Bollywood personalities like Sudhir Mishra and Viveck Vaswani to assist Zee on creative aspects of programming.”

Mishra, a known film writer and director, has been designated as a Creative Resource. He is reckoned for direction in the recently released ‘Chameli’, ‘Calcutta Mail’ and ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi’. Vaswani, the actor, producer and director, has a number of movies like ‘Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar’ and ‘Ishq Vishq’ to his credit as a co-producer.

Unlike the new entrants to the league, Khanna started his career away from the television space. A mechanical engineer from IIT, Kharagpur and a graduate from IIM, Bangalore, Khanna’s first rush into prominence began with the position of the CEO, Zee Turner Limited, after which, he was brought in to fill the void left by Apurva Purohit (then President, Zee). In his stint as the president, he successfully carried out rounds of restructuring and fresh appointments.

The mild and polite Khanna has been the driving force behind Zee’s newest initiatives in programming, such as ‘Lavanya’ and ‘Zee Cine Stars Ki Khoj’. In his many interactions with the media fraternity, he has always emphasised on the need to innovate and to explore fresh ground, at least as far as the programming department was concerned.
