Raja Ganapathy, Vice-President and General Manager, rmg David, Chennai, is moving on from his present position to head national marketing for Deutsche Bank. He will be joining as Vice-President and Head of Marketing at Deutsche Bank towards the end of July.
Confirming the development, Ganapathy said, “The challenge and attractiveness of the job made one say yes. Banking and Financial Services is a sunrise industry and is opening up rapidly too. But all this is a post-analysis and it was really a sudden decision.”
Ganapathy will relocate to Mumbai for his new assignment. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time this rather successful ad man has chosen to part ways with the agency business. Ganapathy had started at Ogilvy Chennai on the Levers business (Pond’s), took a break for a year to join Avigna Technologies before coming back in 2001 to set up rmg David at Chennai. In his stint with O&M, he handled a banking client too, namely, Grindlays.
He will be missed by rmg David. Josy Paul, Country Manager and National Creative Director, said, “What’s happened to Raja is a matter of pride for all of us at rmg. On the one side, we are thrilled for him as well as for the recognition that rmg has gained in the market. But Raja’s leaving is definitely a huge loss for us.”
The agency is seeking a replacement for Ganapathy and also looking to expand the team including Chennai, with new clients on the verge of coming on board. Wishing Ganapathy luck are a host of clients from the South, including Cholayil (Cuticura), Duke's Confectionery, Bharat Matrimony and Raj TV.
Josy added, “He has built an enormous equity for the agency with the clients and they are all completely with us. We have a few more clients coming on board and will need to find a replacement rather quickly.”
The agency is on the verge of unveiling its new identity towards the end of this month and set to go international too. As reported by exchange4media, K S Gopal moved in from R K Swamy/BBDO last week. More moves into the agency are expected soon.
