Television rating points (TRPs) have always been a hotly debated topic in the industry. Taking forward this debate, Doordarshan Delhi, is holding a major conclave on the issue of popularity of programmes involving people meters and other methodologies that go into determining TRPs. The one-and-a-half-hour long programme would be telecast Live on DD-I at 6.30 pm on March 14, 2008.
Many a channel has rejected this methodology outright and had been questioning the misguided parameters that compel advertisers at large to put huge sums of money on particular programmes on particular channels. There is no foolproof method as yet of measuring audience preference for TV programmes. As such, a large part of the advertising budget is cornered by programmes and channels that register higher TRPs. There is again no ‘single currency’ governing the just distribution of advertising wealth.
Some two dozen channel CEOs, advertising heads, content providers and editorial heads, along with a huge number of participants from the television industry would be present in the studios of Doordarshan Delhi for the special Conclave.

The programme has been produced by Rajiv Kumar, who is considered to be DD’s news and current affairs specialist.
