It has been almost a month since Arnab Goswami announced the name of his new venture-Republic. On January 7, 21 days after the announcement, Republic formally made its debut on social media. It must be mentioned that the story of Goswami’s new venture was first reported on exchange4media.

As Republic made its Twitter debut, the first tweet from its official handle (@republic) urged people to support the new venture which aims to disrupt the news media space. It read:

This was followed by a series of Tweets which called Republic as a ‘people’s movement’ and ‘India’s first independent news channel’. In less than 24 hours, Republic attracted over 55k followers and the count is growing every passing hour.

Even its Facebook page is witnessing a massive response with over 12k likes already. In an earlier interview with exchange4media, Goswami had explained the vision of his new venture in these words, “Republic will be a truly reporters driven media, not anything but independent media. Come 2017 and journalists will not be answerable to anyone but their stories. In this digital age you cannot stop me from reaching anyone. Moreover, the fact is that monopolies cannot be won or lost on the basis of money and this will be the biggest change that will happen in 2017.”

In a matter of hours the social media was abuzz with the news of Republic’s social media debut and hashtags like #ArnabGoswami, #Republic were among top trends on Twitter. Here is how the Twitteratti reacted to the news:

In an exclusive interview with us on 30th December 2016, Goswami had reiterated that Republic is all about representing the voice of the people of this nation and his new venture will be run by independent media professionals. He stated, “Republic belongs to everyone. People of this country, like me, will not be cowed down by anyone. With this intention, I am announcing the launch of Republic as an independent media platform that is owned, controlled, run, managed, evangelized and curated by independent media professionals.”

With Republic’s social media debut making big news, the charisma of Goswami is undoubtedly back with a bang.
