GoaFest 2009 is all set to kick off with the Industry Leadership Conclave on April 2, 2009. With just a day to go, Cavelossim Beach has become the hotbed of activities as it gears up to welcome the delegates. Creative Abby, that has registered an increase in entries, has seen action in the press even before the Festival begins. Registrations are on full swing too.
Despite the slowdown, Creative Abby entries at GoaFest 2009 have exceeded last year’s number. This year, 4,494 entries have been received as compared to 4,172 entries last year. These include entries for Advertising, Direct, Digital Interactive, Film Craft, and the newly-introduced Design categories. Advertising entries alone totalled 3,706 with print, out of home, film, radio and integrated attracting a large chunk of them.
Direct category saw participation from 28 companies that had sent in 229 entries in all. The fast growing Digital Interactive category has had 175 entries from 35 companies. Twenty-two film production companies have sent in 206 entries. Thirty-two companies have sent in 178 entries in the Design category.
While this was good news on one hand, the organisers are flustered with jury member/s who did not respect the non-disclosure agreements (NDA) and leaked some information to the press this year as well. GoaFest Chairman Colvyn Harris said, “We have appealed to everyone for this to not have repeated, and it is irresponsible to see this happening.”
The reactions from all senior industry leaders are similar to last year. Shashi Sinha said, “There would be reporters who would see this as more important than other news at the Festival and would want to break this before the event takes place, but it is up to the industry to be more careful about an initiative like this. The fault lies with the jury members, who did not respect the trust that was vested in them.”
With over 100 jury members, the list of who possibly squealed is long, but the folly of a few point fingers at all involved.
In the meantime, preparations for the Festival have not slowed down one bit. GoaFest organisers are on afternoon flights to the tourists’ paradise to ensure that all arrangements are in place for the Industry Leadership Conclave on April 2, which unlike in the previous years, would be held at the Ad Village itself this year.
