Ratnakar Rao, Group Head, Maa TV Network has put in his papers. Rao has confirmed the news to exchange4media. As Group Head, he was responsible for the four Maa TV Network channels. His role was more strategic and holistic, aimed at building the overall brand and its value proposition.

Sharing about his eight-month stint with Maa TV Network, Rao said, “The starting point was to gain a lead among Telugu GECs with a comfortable margin and prepare ground to retain the status in the long run. MEK provided the headstart in gaining viewership, penetration and channel preference. Today, Maa has achieved its objective of occupying a premier position among Telugu GECs and is poised to consolidate its position moving forward.”

He called his exit “a very understandable and healthy separation from the group” and added, “I have high regards and respect for the owners and it is always nice to be with an organisation, when the organisation is at its peak point.”

When asked about his next destination, Rao replied that he is mulling over the options coming his way.

Rao is a marketing communications professional based in Hyderabad. With three decades of experience, Rao is a core advertising specialist with a deep understanding of marketing. He started his career as a trainee Account Executive at MCM, a Mumbai-based agency. He then moved on to work with several other agencies, including FD Stewart, MAPP, etc., before settling into a long stint with RK Swamy BBDO as Head of Hyderabad operations.

Later, he moved on to DDB Worldwide Communications Group based in the Middle East, where he oversaw many regional clients that operated across the GCC and was with the group for 10 years. He then shifted to Retail Marketing with two stints at Alghanim Industries Kuwait and Landmark Retail Group Dubai. On returning to India, Rao entered the field of Advertising Strategy Consultancy and teaching at business schools in Hyderabad.
