The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has appointed Bhuvnesh Kumar as the CEO of UIDAI. Kumar also serves as Additional Secretary at MeitY.
Kumar is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1995 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
Kumar has previously worked as Principal Secretary of Uttar Pradesh’s Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries, as well as Secretary across multiple departments, including Finance, MSME, and Technical Education. He has also served as Joint Secretary at MeitY.
UIDAI, or the Unique Identification Authority of India, is a statutory authority established by the Government of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It is responsible for issuing a unique identification number called Aadhaar to all residents of India. The Aadhaar card is a 12-digit unique identity number that is linked to an individual's biometric and demographic data, which is stored in a centralized database.
