PR professionals need to become instruments of disruption: Dr. Sanjaya Baru, Jury Chair IPRCCA 2017

At the recently held jury meet of Public Relations & Corporate Communications Awards (IPRCCA) 2017, PR Consultancies and Corporate Communications were recognised for their contribution to the industry.

This year the jury was chaired by Dr. Sanjaya Baru, former Media Advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and current Secretary-General, FICCI India. The other jury members included names like Archana Datta, Ex-Director General, Prasar Bharati, Jayram Ramanathan, Vice President, Corporate Communications, Aviva Life Insurance India, Manan Shah, Director Marketing India, Truecaller, Mona Kwatra, Head of Corporate Communications, Edelweiss Group, India, Nandini, Chatterjee, Executive Director & CCO, PwC India, Prateek Chatterjee, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications & Marketing, NIIT Limited, Rashmi Vashisht, Director, Public Relations & Corporate Communications, The Leela Palace, Hotels & Resorts, Sheetal Singh, Head Corporate Communications, Micromax, Sudeep Bhalla, Sr. Vice President Corporate Communication & Sustainability, Vodafone India Limited and Swati Bhattacharya, Group Brand & Communication Head, CK Birla.

Sharing his thoughts about IPRCCA 2017, Jury Chair and Secretary General, FICCI India Dr. Sanjaya Baru, said, “In the world of unexpected rapid change in which there is so much happening in terms of social and economic disruption, PR professionals will find it increasingly challenging. But the real challenge is finding a way of how good are you at dealing with this disruption. How good are you with dealing with a world of uncertainty and how good are you at creating disruption in the minds of the customers, disruption in the minds of the consumers that benefits your clients. In other words, are you simply adjusting yourself, meeting the challenges posed by disruption or are you an instrument of disruption? I think that is really the challenge for a good communication and PR professional.”

Commenting on how this year’s entries included campaigns thought of taboo earlier, Rashmi Vashisht, Director, Public Relations & Corporate Communications, The Leela Palace, Hotels & Resorts, added, “What was amazing this year was that there were campaigns that took issues that we thought about but never talked about. These were taboo issues that were put squarely on the table and received with overwhelming response and people engaged in real time and that is what delivered real results.”

It must be mentioned that he India PR & Corporate Communications Awards, organised by the exchange4media Group are the most extensive and exhaustive awards to recognize the contribution and success of the PR Industry. (IPRCCA) 2017 was held on November 4 at Leela Gurugram. The winners of this year will be awarded on November 16, 2017.
