The IAAF Gold Label Tata Mumbai Marathon, scheduled to be held on 20th January will have over 46,000 participants, including some of the world's best marathon runners.

What truly sets the Tata Mumbai Marathon apart is that, the event is not just a platform for sporting excellence, it has also become India’s largest showcase of people pushing boundaries, inspiring the human spirit.

The event has gone beyond running to bring people together – over politics, religion, race, colour and gender. This includes not only runners but also spectators, volunteers, state and civic authorities, sponsors, fundraisers and all who experience and touch the event in different ways. The Tata Mumbai Marathon inspires people to 'Be Better'.

For the 2019 edition, Tata Mumbai Marathon has launched an initiative ‘Mumkin Hai – Run for the Full’ with Mumbai Striders. The aim was to galvanize, encourage and assist amateur half marathoners to push their limits towards becoming a full marathoner. The success of this initiative reflects in the registrations this year and for the first time, we have 8,414 participants for the Full Marathon, a 22% increase from 2018.

The 2019 edition of the event will witness Ethiopia’s Abera Kuma lead the men’s field, while the women’s field will be headlined by defending women’s champion Amane Gobena. Along with the six-time World Boxing Champion, Mary Kom, as the event ambassador, the event will be graced by South African Comrades Marathon champion, Bruce Fordyce. Popularly known as the ‘Comrades King’, Bruce has been the winner of South Africa’s grueling ultra-marathon for an unprecedented eight consecutive years, and nine times overall.

Pradipta Bagchi, Group Chief Communications Officer, Tata Sons, said, “The Tata Mumbai Marathon is the city’s way of celebrating achievement, perseverance and commitment. The increasing participation from not just Mumbaikars, but from runners across the country and the world is testament to the success of the IAAF Gold event in bringing together over 46,000 runners on one common platform every year in this city.”

He further added, “Tata Mumbai Marathon inspires everybody to #BeBetter and is a great opportunity to engage with the community, connect with youngsters and create awareness about the importance of good health.”

Ujjwal Mathur, Vice President & Country Head – India Business, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said, “This year has been momentous for Tata Sons. Like in the previous years, this year too we will have a large contingent of TCSers from across various geographies taking part in the Tata Mumbai Marathon. We will continue to raise funds for charity and create social awareness for health and fitness in the city. In the true sense, we will root for the spirit of Mumbai!”

Tata Mumbai Marathon is a fully waste managed event, with a focus on managing waste through the 3R principal- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. For the first time ever, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has partnered with the event to work closely in the execution and last mile disposal of all waste generated on-course, the holding area and the event expo.

The entire route will be cleared off all the waste generated within five hours of the closing of all race categories. The waste generated will be segregated at each location as Dry and Wet Waste. This dry / wet, first level segregated waste will be taken to the waste segregation stations at the MCGM Ward Office – where total segregation and last mile recycling would be actioned.
In addition to this, there are other pro-active measures taken by Procam International to ensure reduction in waste generation.

Vivek B Singh, Joint Managing Director, Procam International, said, “As we inch closer to yet another edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, preparations for the event are in full swing. The success of this marathon is not possible without the support from the Government of Maharashtra, state and civic authorities, our sponsors and partners. A new finish for the timed categories will make finish logistics easier and beneficial for our runners. We take this opportunity to thank MCGM for partnering with us on the Waste Management initiative.
