At the recently concluded 17th edition of exchange4media’s flagship property, the exchange4media Conclave, CVL Srinivas, CEO (South Asia) of GroupM was conferred with the 2017 exchange4media Influencer of the Year Award. He was presented the award by Rajya Sabha member and Chairman Zee and Essel Group Dr Subhash Chandra and felicitated by Raj Nayak, COO, Viacom18.

The event was graced by renowned global and national media personalities who delivered addresses on the theme of Leveraging Open Innovation to Engage Consumers.

Carter Murray, Worldwide CEO, FCB, one of the keynote speakers in this year’s edition, spoke on the need for diversity in leadership. Sharing anecdotes from his personal life, Murray said "You should not be judged on whether you are a man or a woman, but on your talent." He citied examples from his professional life to show that every word matters and how those words are uttered also matter.

This was followed by a panel discussion on innovation in print medium and the road ahead, moderated by Anita Nayyar, CEO India and South Asia, Havas Media, with Bobby Pawar, Managing Director, Chief Creative Officer, Publicis Worldwide, Anand Chakravarthy, Managing Partner, WAVEMAKER, Mohit Joshi, Managing Director, Havas Media Group India and Sandeep Khosla, CEO, Mid-Day. They concluded that print is here to stay but the innovation has to be new, engaging and objective with ROI attached to it.

One of the highlights of the event was the key note address by Norm Johnston, Global CEO, FAST, Global Chief Digital Officer, Mindshare Worldwide who took questions from chief marketing officers from different firms on staying relevant in a hyper competitive media landscape. He said, “We are about to go through the third wave of digital disruption which will be the internet of things and this is scary for a lot of people.”

Another panel discussion touched upon sports marketing and sponsorship moderated by Gaurav Kalra, Senior Editor, ESPN Cric Info with Ajay Dang, Head , Marketing, UltraTech Cement, Vinit Karnik, Business Head - ESP Properties, GroupM and Uday Sodhi, Executive Vice President and Head, Digital Business, Sony LIV. Karnik mentioned that sports economy today has pace and momentum as there is a passion for the domain by the people but there needs to be a lot of changes implemented by broadcasters as well as advertisers. He reiterated that fans need to be kept at the centre as they are the real heroes of the game. Sodhi was of the opinion that a lot of sports are now being consumed on mobile screens which had caused disruption and innovation in the sector. Dang concluded the session by saying that both advertisers and broadcasters should collaborate for best results.

If there were marketing lessons on open innovation on one hand, chief guest Dr Chandra and Dr. A Velumani, Chairman and MD, Thyrocare Technologies Ltd shared value lessons to stay ahead of the curve. The Chairman of ZEE & Essel Group pointed out that one has to have the right attitude and value system to win the game during his talk on influencing the influencers. “You have to be frugal. Don't just solve small problems and pass on the bigger problems to your seniors. Solve bigger problems. Prerequisite for a leader is to be able to influence.” These were few of his pointers which were well received by the audience.

While Velumani left the audience in splits with his energy and engaging talk which was received a standing ovation. With instances from his own life’s difficult phases he spoke about how the most powerful innovation comes because of challenges which brought him success. “Once you have seen the lowest there is no fear. Life is made of two innings - first is all pain and second is all pleasure.”

Shriranga K Sudhakara, M.D & Founder - VYOMA Technologies Pvt Ltd, spoke on building brand loyalty through social media and DOOH integration. While V Vaidyanathan, Founder and Executive Chairman, Capital First Ltd spelt out the new challenges in the world of marketing in the light of the changing landscape.

Members from the audience took to Twitter sharing their thoughts on the event and relevant statements by speakers to which they connected. Towards the end it was flooded with congratulatory messages for Srinivas.
