Varun Kohli joins ITV Network as COO and Revenue Head
Kohli in his leadership role will look after advertising sales, marketing & events, apart from related aspects. He moves in from TV18, where he was Senior Vice President
Varun Kohli has joined NewsX and India News as COO and Revenue Head from today. Prior to this, Kohli was with TV18, where he was Senior Vice President. Kohli in his leadership role will look after advertising sales, marketing and events, apart from related aspects. He will be responsible for the entire revenue function at ITV Network.
Confirming the news to exchange4media, Kartikeya Sharma, MD, ITV Network, the promoter of NewsX and India News, said, “NewsX and India News have shown phenomenal growth in the last 12 months. On NewsX, we have grown in audience share and are among the top 3 English news channels. With Deepak Chaurasia, India News has been a steady No. 4 for many weeks. We believe in bringing more leadership to our growing network and I welcome Varun Kohli to a network that is growing.” Sharma further said that Kohli will work with him and RK Arora, CEO, ITV Network to make it the fastest growing network.
Arora added here, “We have delivered to our audiences all that we had planned for and have added new 50 advertisers. As we grow, we need more professionals; Varun completes the leadership team.”
Kohli brings with him over 20 years of experience. He had begun his career in 1994 with Indian Express and has worked significantly in the print industry with brands such as Amar Ujala, Hindustan and Dainik Bhaskar. Prior joining to TV18, he was working with DNA as Executive Vice President for a short stint of five months. Kohli joined Mogae Media as Chief Monetising Officer on March 19, 2012, where he was reporting to Sandeep Goyal, Chairman, Mogae Media. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the sales of mobile, DTH (direct to home) and other inventory. Prior to this, he was Associate Publisher at Mail Today for a year and a half.
On his new role, Kohli said, “I am delighted to be part of this growing network, which continues to invest in people and infrastructure. I have been watching the foray and the growth of NewsX and India News for the last 15 months and it is commendable how such a strong network has been built in such a short time frame. I see tremendous opportunities and areas where we can provide value to our stakeholders and advertisers.”
Sharma has been growing his media empire in the last two years and has turned around NewsX and India News into serious platforms for viewers and advertisers. Last year, Vikas Khianchandani of Aidem was brought on board to grow the NewsX advertiser base. When asked about Aidem’s role, Sharma shared, “Aidem and Vikas have done a great job and will continue to work on the NewsX brand and work closely with Mr Arora and Mr Kohli.”
Sharma’s growing media empire includes newspapers such as The Sunday Guardian and Aaj Samaj, a newspaper in the Hindi belt.
