Zee TV beefs up weekends with ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’

Zee TV is all set to introduce a new show, ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ in the 9 PM prime time slot on weekends. The reality based show, which goes on air from February 23, 2013, would be a 13-week series. The launch comes on the back of the channel’s recent launch, ‘Housewife’, which is aired in the 7 PM time slot.

‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’, a completely home grown property, will be competing with ‘Nach Baliye’ Season 5 on Star Plus and the recently launched show ‘Nautanki - The Comedy Theatre’ on Colors. With the 9 PM prime time slot being of key significance for channels, the players in the broadcast space are regularly churning out new shows in different formats to maintain their loyal audience base. Though Zee TV earlier had undertaken shows pertaining to singing and dancing talents, this will be the first of a kind show that will provide a national platform for kids to showcase their acting talent.

Commenting on the positioning of the show, Ajay Bhalwankar, Head, Content (Hindi GECs), ZEEL, said, “This is basically a talent show which nobody has done so far. Zee TV has always excelled in talent shows. It is a prime time slot, wherein the entire family can sit and watch the show. And we want it to be watched by the entire family. The show is primarily about ‘dramebaaz’, people who are extraordinarily talented and innovative, that is what we are looking at.”

The channel will be embarking on an extensive 360-degree marketing campaign to create awareness about the show, which will include various innovative activities on both traditional and digital media.

Over three months ago, Zee TV had begun its countrywide search with auditions conducted in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Nagpur, Patna, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Indore, Lucknow, Ranchi and Dehradun.

The show is being produced by Esselvision, the in house production arm of Essel Group. The talent hunt show will put children in the age range of five years to 12 years through a series of tasks and challenges that will groom them as actors and test their creativity, spontaneity and acting capabilities. The show will be hosted by Ragini Khanna and Rithvik Dhanjani and judged by Sonali Bendre, Vivek Oberoi and Anurag Basu.
