With Diwali in full swing, broadcasters are undertaking many initiatives to bring television screens alive with unique programming line-up and contests. Zee TV has launched an on-ground reality game based on Ramayan that viewers can play at various malls across Mumbai on November 17 and November 18. Viewers will be able to step into the role of Ram and help kill Ravan as a part of the game.
The channel also had a special Diwali episode lined up titled ‘Zee Ki Beesvi Diwali’ which was telecast on Saturday, November 10 at 8PM. As a part of the Diwali line-up, the channel aired a special episode of the show ‘Just Ek Minute’ with Omung Kumar, which is a 90s show. The channel also aired Diwali episodes of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012’ on November 10 and November 11.
As a part of its festive celebrations, Star Plus aired ‘STAR Diwali – Har Chehre Par Muskaan’ till November 9, 2012.
STAR Diwali was a week-long celebration which showcased mythological folk tales behind Diwali. Some of the folk tales included Katha Lakshmi Ki, Katha Ganesh Ki, Katha Krishna Ki and Katha Ram Ki.
Life Ok has launched ‘Ram Leela’, which will be telecast for a specific period from Dussehra to Diwali. The last episode will be aired on November 18, 2012. With this, the channel is aiming to create programming that is pertinent to a certain event, that is, topical and for a specific time period, that is, with pre-decided number of episodes.
9XM has created a unique video for the Diwali festival. The video is a musical ‘jugalbandi’ between the sounds of firecrackers and percussion instruments. In addition to being played on the channel, the video is uploaded on 9XM’s YouTube page as well as on its website.
To entertain the audience during Diwali, UTV Stars’ show ‘Live My Life’ would feature Ajay Devgan and a Rajasthan-based fan. They will celebrate Diwali together with the fan getting a chance to live Ajay’s life for a day.
Coming to kids’ channels, Pogo is all set to brighten Diwali by adding Chhota Bheem movies and a contest to the festive celebrations. The channel will treat kids to the best Chhota Bheem movies aired in the past year and an on-air contest called ‘Dishum Diwali’ will take place every day between November 12 and November 16, 2012 from 12PM onwards.
Nickelodeon also released the movie Keymon Ache & Nani in Space Adventure – A Viacom18 Motion Pictures release on November 9, 2012, which will trace the adventures of Keymon along with his buddy Rohan. The movie saw a four-city theatrical release across Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Bangalore in leading multiplexes.
Cartoon Network is adding to the festivities with a special line-up of movies and a contest for Diwali. The Diwali bonanza starts every day from November 12 to November 18, 2012 at 2PM with brand new Horrid Henry specials – Ullu Banaya!! Bada Mazaa Aaya and mega movies such as My Friend Ganesha trilogy, My Name is Raj 3, Bal Ganesh, Bhoot and Friends followed by Oggy & the Cockroaches. Young viewers can also participate in a Diwali contest called ‘Diwali Dhoom Dhadaka’ to win prizes such as iPad 2 and PSP everyday.
Disney channel is all set to introduce an Indian character ‘Baljeet’ in a special episode of ‘Phineas and Ferb’ on November 12. Disney XD will telecast action movies such as ‘GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra’, ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ and so on, from November 12 to November 16. The channel will also air Luv-Kush special ‘Ugruvar’, ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Zokkomon’ on Hungama TV on November 13.
In the English movie space, PIX has lined up blockbuster films. From October 20, the channel has been airing movies daily at 11PM. Called ‘PIX Blockbuster Carnival’ festival, it will continue till November 18. It includes titles such as Resident Evil: Extinction, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans, War of the Worlds, amongst others.
On similar lines, Movies Now treating audience with properties such as Bond Festival, Supermovie ‘300’, Boom Boom Blast, Fireworks and Diwali Divas – which is telecasting different genres of movies from November 2, 2012.
Star Movies will participate in the festivities with its property ‘Dynamite Diwali’. It will telecast movies such as Real Steel, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and X Men First Class on November 13, 2012.
History TV 18 will capture the festive fervour of Diwali with a special line-up of shows with a strong India connect. The special Diwali programming includes shows such as Bollywood Stars Australia, A Passage through India, Secret Kitchen (Diwali Mithai Hunt), and Road Less Travelled.
AXN has created a 15-hour vertical branded slot showcasing the best of magic, talent-reality, series and movies. The channel will telecast ‘15 Days of Thrill’ Diwali blockbusters till November 15 and a 15-hour ‘Thrillathon’ on November 13 as part of the Diwali line-up. AXN will also be premiering ‘Transformers’ and ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ on November 13 and November 14, respectively.
ET Now has brought to its viewers Diwali specials on shows such as Brand Equity, Back to School and Investor’s Guide. Three lucky viewers got a complete portfolio makeover on Investor’s Guide with Gaurav Mashruwala, Vishal Kapoor, Dhirendra Kumar on November 10.
