Ten Sports acquires Pakistan Cricket Board rights through 2013

Taj Television Ltd, owners of Ten Sports, has won the exclusive production and telecast rights for all international cricket tours of Pakistan. An agreement on this was signed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Taj Television Ltd on November 23, 2008.

As per the agreement, Taj Television’s production, telecast and distribution rights for international tours include all Test, One Day International and Twenty20 matches.

The period of agreement starts from November 24, 2008, and continues through the 2012-13 season. The rights include nearly 200 days of live cricket and cover all forms of electronic media.

Among the major tours that will take place during the period of agreement are two visits by India, including the series in January-February 2009; three by Australia; and one each by England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South Africa.

Chris McDonald, CEO, Taj Television Ltd, said, “We are very pleased that the PCB has extended our five year old broadcast relationship by another five-year term. Our plan is to continue with and even improve upon our past performance and ensure that the magic of Pakistan cricket is enjoyed by viewers worldwide.”

Peter Hutton, Senior VP Programming and Production, Taj Television Ltd, added, “We are already preparing to add in improved technology on the upcoming tours to allow Pakistan cricket fans the best possible viewing experience.”

Ten Sports is available in over 55 million cable/ satellite homes worldwide. The world’s biggest producer of cricket, the channel broadcasts cricket from the West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai throughout the Indian Sub-continent and Asia, as well as to the US and Canada (Cricket Plus), Continental Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Ten Sports also owns the exclusive rights in its Sub-continent territories for the WWE, the UEFA Champions League, the US Open tennis and Hockey World Cup.
