Tarkas takes charge as CEO, Media Direction

Media Direction, official agency of media specialist OMD in India, has formally announced the appointment of Sandip Tarkas as Chief Executive Officer with from May 3, 2004. Announcing the development, Shekar Swamy, President, R K SWAMY BBDO, stated, "We are delighted with Sandip coming on board. We have a strong media offering, and a broad base of clients. We will be offering an even better service, and expect Media Direction to offer superior solutions to clients".

P R P Nair, a veteran of over 30 years who has been heading Media Direction, will continue being the leading light for the group in the capacity of Senior Media Advisor. Said Nair, "I am glad Sandip is joining us. Together, we can build a great team and I am looking forward to some exciting developments".

Tarkas has over 17 years experience in Advertising and Media. As is known, he has been involved in two successful start-ups--Mindshare Fulcrum and MPG. His last assignment was as President-South Asia, MPG.

On his new assignment, Tarkas stated, "I am very excited about this assignment. Media Direction and OMD offer a terrific platform from a career perspective. More importantly, we can raise media service levels to a new high in India. My goal is to forge the best media group in India in terms of innovations and delivering outstanding value to clients".

It is expected that this development will be the forerunner to the launch of OMD in India in the near future.

As is known, OMD Worldwide is the leading media company and is part of the Omnicom Group. With the new management team in place, OMD can be expected to make its presence felt all the more in India in the coming months.

Media Direction handles the media duty for 44 advertisers including Raymond, Hawkins, Mercedes, Visa, LIC, Birla Sun Life AMC, Zuari/Chambal Group, State Bank, Piaggio etc.
