Sahara One completes restructuring of media and entertainment business

Shantonu Aditya joined Sahara One as CEO yesterday. With this inclusion, the channel network completes its first phase of consolidation in its efforts to drive leadership and set the pace for its business goals within the Indian entertainment plethora.

With Aditya’s appointment Sahara One has completed restructuring its media and entertainment business into three strategic business units – Sahara One Entertainment Television, Sahara One Motion Pictures and Sahara One Filmy (the Hindi film-based entertainment channel). Plans are afoot to build the Sahara Film City soon for which detailed research has been completed. Sahara India Pariwar’s media and entertainment business was re-branded ‘Sahara One’ last October with a new channel ID and promotions

Speaking on his appointment, Aditya said, “I am delighted at the prospect of leading Sahara India Pariwar’s media and entertainment business. Having already become the market leader in Hindi film content production with over six releases in the last eight months, Sahara One is poised to take giant strides in the near future. Backed by a strong team which is already in place I am sure we will break new ground in the integrated media and entertainment domain.”

Said Peter Isaac, Head – Restructuring Initiative, “Shantonu Aditya will head the initiatives that we enter in this business. He will be assisted by a team of experts. Each of them has more than a decade of industry experience in their field. The business will be run professionally and be expected to benchmark itself to lead and excel. Each unit will be an individual profit centre which will form a part of the larger corporate entity”. He added, Sahara One Entertainment has already established its firm intent to be the leader in the industry and this phase has allowed us to set the platform for its achievement.”

Aditya joins ‘Sahara One’ as CEO from SET Discovery Pvt. Ltd where he was President. Having pioneered the pay revenue business model and handled the distribution and franchise of some of the most successful launches in the Indian broadcast industry in recent past such as NDTV, MTV and Nick.

All this will make Sahara One, an integrated media and entertainment company. Aditya will be assisted by highly qualified professionals with a wide range of experience within the media industry including Purnendu Bose - Chief Operating Officer, Sahara One Television Channel; Sandeep Bhargava - Chief Operating Officer, Sahara One Motion Pictures; Ashutosh - Business Head, Sahara One Filmy Channel; Avijit Mita - Head Programming, non-fiction & on-air programmes, Sahara One Entertainment Channel; Kumud Choudhary - Head Programming - Fiction – Sahara One Entertainment Channel; Mukul Mishra - Head on-air Programmes, Sahara One Filmy Channel; and Soumen Ghosh Choudhary - Head Broadcast Operations and Engineering, ‘Sahara One’ Entertainment Channel

‘Sahara One’ has also adopted the global Best Practices in the entertainment and broadcast industry with the help of leading consulting firms viz., KPMG and Ernst & Young.

Sahara One Entertainment has established a firm foothold in the industry with its ‘blockbuster’ performance in the Motion Picture business. It has produced last years biggest Blockbuster – Page 3 and also introduced many innovative movie genres into the market including Phir Milenge, a commercial success with a strong social bend, the historical chronicle of Subhash Chandra Bose titled - Bose, the Forgotten Hero and Mumbai Express.
