Rajat Sharma backs Arun Jaitley in court in DDCA defamation case, say media reports

Veteran journalist and Chairman & Editor-in-Chief of India TV, Rajat Sharma, deposed before the Patiala House court in connection with Arun Jaitley's defamation case against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and 5 other AAP leaders yesterday. The case had been filed by Arun Jaitley back in December and alleged that the AAP leaders had made falsified statements against Jaitley and his family in relation with the DDCA controversy.

DNA reports Sharma told the court, "“Deeply disturbed about the nature of the false allegations made against him (Jaitley) and being in the media..aware that such allegations can cause harm and destroy the reputation of any respectable person.”

Sharma has a long standing connection with Arun Jaitley, lasting more than 4 decades. Media reports suggest that Sharma was not the only media personality deposing before the court. Senior journalist Swapan Dasgupta also deposed in favour of Arun Jaitley, it is being reported.

Yesterday's deposition, which was closed to media, saw Arun Jaitley claim, before the court, that the Delhi CM and 5 other AAP members had made defamatory and false statements against him and his family in relation with the ongoing DDCA case.
