Raj TV ties up for another mega event

Tamil entertainment channel Raj TV, is upping the ante on the events front. Following its successful felicitation of veteran director K Balachander, and its Rajageetham awards night, which is to go on air on July 10, the channel is now set to telecast the felicitation and birthday celebration of ace lyricist and poet Vairamuthu.

Said B Shankar, vice-president, sales and marketing, Raj TV, “We are seriously thinking of more such events in Tamil Nadu. I think we are the only channel in the state to have executed events on this scale with such frequency. We hope to take this further. And, it’s an honour felicitating doyens like K Balachander Sir and Kaviarasu Vairamuthu.”

The event, being organized by the Lions Club of 7 Hills, is to take place on July 13, which also happens to be Vairamuthu’s birthday, at the Kamarajar Arangam, and would be telecast on July 30, 2005, over three hours. The channel is hopeful that the successful run of its past events in terms of viewers and participants will continue.

Performers at the musical night will include great musical talents like S P Balasubramaniam, S P Shailaja, Harini, Unni Menon, Srinivas, Tipu and Harish Raghavendra. Organisers are hopeful that S Janaki and Malaysia Vasudevan might also be able to participate in the event. Besides the singers, the guest list includes director Bhaarathi Raja, composer Vidyasagar and actor Sivakumar.

Though the ‘By Invitation only’ event might keep a lot of fans from entering the 1,700-capacity hall, there may not be too many vacant seats.

Raj TV is also shaping up plans to cover more such big events over the next three months, and promos are already on for its Mudhalvan Awards, which will be held in Chennai shortly.
