Raj Network launches Tamil music channel; to roll out music channels in other south Indian languages

Chennai-based Raj Television Network Ltd launched Tamil music channel, Raj Musix, on January 23. Next on the media house’s agenda is to roll out music channels in other south Indian languages – Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada – in the next six months.

Announcing the launch of Raj Musix in Chennai, M Ravindran, Director, Raj Television, said, “We are delighted to launch Raj Musix, a youth-based music and lifestyle channel. Our channel will be different in programming content and presentation. We wish all our viewers happy viewing.”

Targeted at the upmarket youth, Raj Musix will have a unique and interesting potpourri of programmes catering to viewers of all ages and different musical interest. The channel would be a mix of anchor-based as well as recorded programmes. A slew of variety musical programmes have been lined up, including ‘En-maname’, an expression on theme of ‘love’, ‘SMS your star of the week’, ‘ATM’ (All Time Music) which is a viewer phone-in programme, ‘Cine Walk’, which traces the history of Tamil cinema, ‘In-focus’ (profiling of celebrities), and ‘Chennai Mail’ (keeps track of the cultural happenings in the city), among others.

Besides playing Tamil music, Raj Musix will also play the latest Indipop, English and Bollywood film music.

“Raj Misix is not just about music and fun. We have also lined up some thought-provoking infotainment programmes under our lifestyle section like ‘Gramophone’, where the older generation can share their inspiring lifetime experiences. ‘Malligai’, a programme that will feature women achievers from various walks of life,” said Amit Boss, Vice-President, Programming & Productinon, Raj Musix.

Raj Musix is a free-to-air channel with five hours of live and five hours of recorded programmes. There are two major Tamil music channels currently – Sun Music and SS Music. Recent months have seen two new entrants – JayaMax and Kalaignar TV’s Isai Aruvai.
