Makkal TV ropes in V Murugan as COO; revamps content line-up

Makkal TV is all set get a facelift with an array of programmes designed to appeal to all members of the family. The initiative is spearheaded by a rejuvenated channel team headed by new COO, V Murugan. Murugan, who brings two decades of professional broadcast media experience to the table, was earlier Vice President, Sales & Marketing, at Tamil GEC Raj TV.

The new programme mix, to be rolled out in a phased manner through March and April 2010, comprises a mix of animation, classic feature films and serials, talent hunt shows, spiritual segments, interactive quiz shows with spot prizes, liberal doses of humour in varied packages, and historical fiction, among others.

The channel will be airing the original escapades of Tarzan and Jane in Tamil versions of the classic movie series. The series, aimed at kids, is slated to air in April. Keeping its adult viewers in mind, Makkal TV will be launching ‘Makkal Thirai’, a treasure trove of seminal works of global cinema, presented for the first time in Tamil language versions. The series will premiere with the finest works of Hollywood great, Alfred Hitchcock, and will go on to showcase the creations of many more master craftsmen.

Makkal TV will soon air ‘Kanavu Meipadavendum’ (Realize Your Dreams), a statewide talent hunt that will identify leadership potential and managerial abilities in aspiring youth, thus creating a launch pad for future generation of leaders.

‘Chella Pranigal’ (Adorable Creatures), ‘Kichu Kichu Mootava’, ‘Yaarikku Aayiram’, and ‘Marumanam’ are some of the other shows that the channel is planning to launch in the next two months.
