Jaya TV turns 10; revamps the channel with new shows

Jaya TV, one of the leading Tamil satellite channels, recently completed 10 years of its operations. As part of commemorating its decade-old successful run, the channel has upgraded some of its popular shows while phasing out a few others and has introduced news shows.

GV Prakkash, Head of Creative, Jaya TV Network, said, “After completing 10 years, we have started upgrading the programmes to another level by giving them a new look and feel. There is nothing called ‘old content’, which is there and everything is brand new, fresh and more categorised. Till now, it was like we needed a show and for that we required certain amount of content that will reach the audience. Now, we are focused in reaching the audience and we have understood their requirement to the core and are specialising in that.”

For 10 years, Jaya has dished out some popular programmes such as ‘Ragamalika’, ‘Little Super Stars’, ‘Arul Neram’, ‘Thaka Dhimi Tha’ and game show ‘Jackpot’, which hit a triple century in June 2008 and is still going strong.

The channel has also introduced some brand new shows, including a breakfast show called ‘Good Morning Tamizha’ and ‘CinemaTalk’, among others. The channel has also introduced several other fiction and non-fiction shows. “We have done this for the betterment of the channel. We are setting a new benchmark as far as programming is concerned,” Prakkash further said.

The channel was relaunched on August 22 and Prakkash is happy about the ratings so far. He is also excited about the audience response to all the new shows.

Jaya TV also has a good movie library comprising both old and new movies and the channel is updating its movie library on a regular basis. The channel has recently set up kiosks in a few prime locations in Chennai, where people can demand anything and everything and that would be played on the channel. Prakkash informed that similar kiosks would be set up in other cities in Tamil Nadu soon. That apart, from now on the channel will be coming up with new content periodically.

Prakkash had recently joined Jaya TV as Head of Creative following the exit of V Murali Raaman. Prior to joining Jaya TV, he was Creative Head at Southern Spice Music. For Prakkash, this is his second stint at Jaya TV. He was the part of the core team that had set up Jaya TV in 1998. He has also had two stints with Zee Network in his career spanning more than a decade.
