Jaspal Bhatti returns on Doordarshan with new serial after 10-year hiatus

Noted comedian Jaspal Bhatti is staging a comeback on television with his comedy serial ‘Nonsense Private Limited’, which is being produced for Doordarshan. The serial, produced and directed by Bhatti himself, will herald his return on Doordarshan after a gap of about a decade since his last satirical serial, ‘Full Tension’, was telecast by the public broadcaster.

Interestingly, Doordarshan is the only television network for which Bhatti had produced his comedy serials. He started with hugely successful mini series ‘Ulta Pulta’ in the eighties, followed by the equally hit serials ‘Flop Show’ and ‘Full Tension’. In fact, ‘Flop Show’ created a record of sorts in terms of its repeat telecasts on Doordarshan on popular demand.

Bhatti, who had of late been busy acting in Bollywood films, also acted in Sab TV serial ‘Dhaba Junction’, besides doing comic election programmes like ‘Chunavi Bhatti’ on Zee News.

With ‘Nonsense Private Limited’, Bhatti will once again be seen in the role of producer, director and actor on a television channel. Doordarshan has scheduled his comedy serial for telecast from December 7. This 13-part prime time serial will be telecast on DD1.

Besides producing and directing the serial, Bhatti will also appear in a lead role. Speaking to exchange4media Bhatti said that ‘Nonsense Private Limited’ would be a spoof (sort of stand up comedy) on current events related to politics, sports and other fields. He added that within the limits of a public broadcaster though his serial would be restrained, there would be unlimited fun like in his earlier serials.

Meanwhile, Bhatti is currently doing a bilingual (Hindi and Punjabi) comedy film with two well-known Punjabi comedians Jasvinder Bhalla and Ghuggi. The film, based on the protagonist’s relationship with the Jeejaji (brother-in-law), is set for release in DVD format by December.
