Genre Check: Star, Colors, Zee... Hindi GECs end the year on a good note

TAM Media Research’s ratings of the last week of 2008 are here. The Hindi general entertainment genre has had a good year-end. The ratings were especially noteworthy for Colors as the channel has recorded it highest ever ratings, pocketing 255 GRPs. Last week, the channel was at 233 GRPs. Star Plus has maintained its lead in the genre. With the exception of the weeks where workers struck work, where all Hindi general entertainment channels, with the exception of Colors for ‘Bigg Boss’, were airing repeat programming, Star has maintained its distance from the rest in the genre.

In the year-end week, Star Plus clocked 295 GRPs, which is marginally high from the 292 GRPs that the channel had last week. Zee TV, which had jumped to 230 GRPs last week with ‘Taare Zameen Par’ delivering for the channel, is at 191 GRPs in the year-end week.

In the next rung, Sony and Star One ended the year very close to each other – Sony had 81 GRPS, a drop from the 89 GRPs it had last week, and Star One closed with 80 GRPs, one rating drop from last week. NDTV Imagine’s year-end weekly GRPs stood at 65.

SAB, 9X and Sahara One do not see much change in their numbers. SAB is at 46 GRPs, 9X (with only repeat programming even in the last week) is at 45 GRPs, and Sahara One ended with the year with 44 GRPs.
