Euronews Group appoints Carolyn Gibson as Chief Revenue Officer

Michael Peters, CEO, Euronews Group has announced the creation of a new division as part of the NEXT strategy. He has appointed Carolyn Gibson from BBC Worldwide to supervise all commercial revenue for the Group. Gibson joins member of the Euronews' Executive Committee.

Euronews SA is developing its ‘Euronews NEXT’ strategy to be implemented next year. This major new initiative aims to deliver the news group's digital transformation and to overhaul its editorial and product offering and includes the development of a new commercial strategy.

To do this, Euronews will establish a new division to supervise all commercial revenue and operate all the services that generate this income.

Gibson, who will be based in London, will define a new commercial strategy for the group, which consists of two international news sources- Euronews and Africanews. Carolyn will oversee the following services- advertising sales, digital, distribution and diversification.

With over 27 years' experience in media, Gibson joins Euronews from BBC Worldwide where she was Executive Vice President for BBC Advertising, responsible for global advertising revenue for all the BBC`s commercially funded international news services which include BBC World News, BBC.COM and BBC World Service websites. She oversaw the activities of sales and operations teams across 18 global offices which included BBC Storyworks, the in house content marketing division that she established in 2014.

Gibson joined the BBC in 1998 as a founding member of the in-house sales network, before becoming Regional Sales Director for EMEA and then Vice-President Sales for EMEA and Americas. Prior to this, she spent two years with the French media group IP Network where she represented the sales and marketing contracts for Euronews alongside BBC World News. Carolyn's early career led her to Hong Kong as International Sales manager for Star TV, following five years working in UK trade press.

Peters said, "I am delighted to welcome Carolyn Gibson to my team. Her sales and digital expertise make her one of the most talented and respected professionals in the international media market. She is perfectly placed to provide us with a new revenue strategy to achieve the project Euronews NEXT, our strategic response to a globalised news world where all international media groups are being required to adapt and innovate to ensure they remain ahead of consumer needs.”

He added, “In this competitive and dynamic market, I made the choice to launch a development plan to reinvent Euronews. In 2017, we will bring new editorial proposition to our audience, across every platform, based on our raison d'être: the urgent need to put pluralism back at the centre of the international debate. This philosophy is reflected in our mantra Euronews, All Views.”

“This plan also aims to revamp our business model in order to meet the changing dynamics of the media market. Carolyn will reimagine our commercial approach and bring to the teams her tremendous expertise and understanding of customer needs."

Gibson said,"I'm excited to be part of a new challenge at Euronews. In an ultra-competitive news market, I think the Euronews' ambitious development plan offers a unique opportunity to deliver a truly European perspective on global events, delivered via a multicultural and multilingual news service, tailored to audience needs across multiple platforms.”

She added , “As audiences are faced with increasing choice, accessing their news via mobile and social platforms and seek ever more relevant and personalized news in order to make sense of the world, the resonance of a non-partisan editorial vision that represents the diversity of viewpoints is more important than ever.”

“With its unique assets and approach, Euronews is well positioned for growth. My aim is to deliver a successful commercial proposition to support the editorial and product evolution represented by Euronews NEXT and in particular to increase the digital, mobile first and social footprint of this atypical news group."
