STAR packs another punch for weekends, to bring in ‘Jodee Kamaal Ki’ from March 4

Despite what critics have been saying, ‘KBC 2’ had given STAR Plus weekends something to talk about. The challenge even then was what would STAR Plus do to keep the slot fertile, and the channel has now planned a second course of action to boost its weekends. Replacing the Big B game show is a celebrity game show, ‘Jodee Kamaal Ki’, which launches on March 4, 2006 in the 9.00 pm slot.

“For March, the show would be preceded by the new STAR Parivaar properties we have created,” informed Shailja Kejriwal, Senior Creative Director, STAR India, “and this will lead into properties like ‘Ba, Bahoo aur Baby’ and the others that are already doing very well for us.” The extension of ‘Miilee’ and ‘Kkavyanjali’ take care of the 9.00-10.00 pm slot on Fridays and the new line-up would take the Saturday slots.

Speaking on the new show, Kejriwal said, “Dheeraj Kumar came to us with the format about couples, at least one of whom is a celebrity, involved in a game show about compatibility and how well they know each other. Our creative team then fine-tuned, finalised on details like the celebrity can be from any walk of life and so on, and together with Creative Eye Ltd, we put the show in place.”

Designed and produced by Creative Eye Ltd, the show will probe into the compatibility levels of couples, while giving a platform to these celebrity pairs to come forward and participate as teams and relive their moments of truth, joy, despair, agreement or even disagreement.

“This very ingredient brings in it a flavour of interest and curiosity for the viewer,” Kejriwal explained, adding, “In addition, it would be three couples competing with each other – in all we think it brings all the ingredients that would keep the viewer hooked.”

The three participating celebrity couples will be invited from various walks of life – be it sports, politics, music, films or television. Anchoring the show will be Rakshanda Khan. The show has been designed in five rounds – ‘Pyaar Ka Imtihaan’, ‘Kaam Ke Na Kaaj Ke’, ‘Bolo To Jaane’, ‘Bol-Boli Bol’ – an option to this round is ‘Jaane Kya Tune Kahi’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.

“This will consolidate the weekend slot for us and our experience with shows like ‘Nach Baliye’ has been that home grown shows, too, can have a great response. We are looking forward to the same from ‘Jodee Kamaal Ki’ as well,” said Kejriwal.

Speaking further on this, she said, “Desi formats are working well for us on the whole and the examples range from ‘Laughter Challenge’, ‘Nach Baliye’ and ‘Kaboom’. ‘Jodee Kamaal Ki’ is another attempt in that direction.”
