Aditya Ray takes charge of ToI’s Eastern operations as Vice-President

Aditya Ray has joined The Times of India’s Response department as Vice-President, East from August 1. He will head Response (East), Brand TOI Kolkata as well as the branch administration.

An electrical engineer from IIT, Mumbai and an MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad , Ray has over 13 years’ experience, mainly in marketing and sales. His last assignment, which lasted for little over a year, was as CEO of Maharaja Television in Colombo. He was handling three channels – Sinhalese Sirasa TV, Tamil Shakthi TV and Channel One MTV in English – from the Maharaja Group, a well diversified business group in Sri Lanka.

Having started his career in product management with Dunlop, Ray subsequently worked with organisations like Amtrex Ambience and Propack Holding AG, before joining the media industry with Zee Telefilms in early 1997.

At Zee, he headed key functions like marketing and marketing services before taking charge of the Eastern regional operations in 2002, including the consolidation of the Zee (Alpha) Bangla channel in terms of business.

Elaborating on his new appointment, Ray said, “I am excited about my new role with The Times of India, which is after all the largest media house in India. I have a big challenge ahead of me in Kolkata… For the last eight years I’ve had a great time in television, and I am looking forward to a similar run in print.”

Ray certainly has his task cut out, what with the recent exodus of several key Times hands to DNA and tough competition in the market place with strongly entrenched players like ‘The Telegraph’.
