Mirchi Kaan Awards entries a mirror of last year, says the Jury

The sixth Mirchi Kaan Awards has received around 750 entries across 15 categories, which is more or less the same as last year’s numbers. Some of the awards include Client of the Year for the most outstanding advertiser of 2008, Radio Writer of the Year, Agency of the Year, Production House of the Year, and the Voice of the Year. The Single Crystal Award will be awarded to the most outstanding radio commercial of the year. The winners of the sixth Mirchi Kaan Awards will be announced on May 8, 2009, in Mumbai.

It is not just the number of entries that are the same for the sixth Mirchi Kaan Awards, but, if the jury is to be believed, the quality of radio advertising, too, remains the same as last year.

Josy Paul, Chairman and National Creative Director, BBDO India, said, “The quality of entries in radio advertising has been more or less on the same lines as that of last year. I believe there has been not enough focus on radio this year, and what needs to be done is focus on innovation. The people working in the radio industry are doing a great job.”

Prathap P Suthan, National Creative Director, Cheil India | Southwest Asia Regional HQ, said, “I was not here last year, nevertheless, I have seen interesting work – real good advertisements – and I hope some of the ideas we have heard are skewed to regional languages.”

Nandan Srinath, COO, ENIL (Radio Mirchi), noted, “Last year, too, we had similar number of entries, and the quality of radio advertising has also been similar to that of last year. The Mirchi Kaan Awards stays unique not just because it is the only award celebrating excellence in radio advertising, but more importantly, also because this is the only advertising award where all the agencies participate and showcase their work.”
