Adidas has signed up Virender Sehwag for a period of three years to endorse entire range of its products that include sports footwear, apparel and accessories.
After Tendulkar, Sehwag is the second one from the Indian Cricket team to endorse Adidas. Says Tarun Kunzru, MD, Adidas, "We had the master with us. Now we also have the blaster."
The company was quick to clarify that the earlier endorsement deal signed with Tendulkar in 1998 still stood and it was not replacing him with Sehwag. "Tendulkar remains with us. We have a deal with Tendulkar till 2004," added Kunzru. Adidas also have Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi as the endorsers.
Sehwag, at hand to acknowledge the cheers, which reconfirmed his fast-growing celebrity status, seemed to be pleased to be allied with the sports goods company. Says he, "I have seen several world champions endorsing the products of this company that is known for its quality sports footwear, apparel and accessories. I am honoured to be among such champions and will work towards enhancing the image of Adidas in India."
