In the week gone by, Disney and 21st Century Fox inked a landmark deal with the former buying most assets of Fox for $ 52 billion in stock. We put the Spotlight on the advertising industry taking a beating due to DeMo and implementation of GST. Some studies suggest that the industry grew by barely 10-11 per cent this year, a significant phase of low growth since the massive dip in 2012. According to the Pitch-Madison Report, the industry was poised to grow at 13.5% at Rs 56, 152 cr in 2017 but according to revised estimates by Zenith Media Report, these numbers now stand at 11% at Rs. 53918 cr in 2017. The ad industry is now hoping for a revival in 2018. Baba Ramdev won the Impact Person of the Year Award 2017 for his exemplary work at Patanjali Ayurved and the fact that it has caused a disruption in the FMCG market in India. The Cannes International Festival of Creativity announced that Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman & Creative Director, Ogilvy South Asia and Prasoon Pandey, Film Director, will both be honoured with the Cannes Lions’ Lifetime Achievement Award, the Lion of St. Mark. This is the 8th Lion of St. Mark awarded by the Cannes Film Festival. The award will formally be given to Piyush and Prasoon Pandey at the Cannes Festival on June 22, 2018. BARC India appointed Nakul Chopra as the third Chairman. Chopra joined the BARC India Board in September 2016 and since then has been an integral part of the various decisions taken by the Board. Kyoko Matsushita, CEO- APAC, Essence, said that GroupM is considering shifting some of its key digitally driven clients to Essence, its relatively new agency that came to India in August 2016 with its first office in Gurugram. Essence is expected to expand its operations in 2018 with opening of more offices in India. Essence is particularly known for being Google's agency on record.
