In the week gone by we put the Spotlight on the offline retail industry increasingly coming under stress with the rising popularity of online shopping platforms. The first-ever exchange4media South Conclave, the regional version of the flagship event by the Group, was held in Bengaluru on December 1, 2017. The umbrella theme for the South Conclave this year was ‘Making Brands Purposeful’. Arthur Bastings, President and Managing Director, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP), a division of Discovery Communications, resigned after a two year stint. Bastings is reported to serve his notice period till December 31. Based in Discovery HQ in Singapore, Bastings was responsible for the company’s commercial and operational units, including sales, channel distribution, production operations, research, marketing, communications and digital media for Discovery’s 15 entertainment brands in the region. Zomato’s recent ad campaign featuring the initials ‘MC’ and ‘BC’ had to be pulled down as it was rather bold by Indian standards. Naveen Gupta, a Kanpur-based journalist, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on a bike in Bilhaur, Kanpur, on Thursday evening. Gupta succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
